Bible jeremiah 29 119/2/2023 ![]() Through the inspiration of God, the apostle Paul reminds us that “ Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” Romans 8:28. It is important for mankind to realize who they are in Christ and stand firmly on His promises knowing that His only desire is to see men prosper. This aspect of the verse means that God is concerned about the total well-being of His children and His desire is for them to receive the full measure of His blessings, His love, grace and mercy. What does “For I know the plans I have for you” mean? The final word of consolation in this verse in both translations is that God, through His love and mercies, will grant His children the life they deserve as they look towards the future with joy and expectancy. While the wording in both translations differs, both denote that the intent of God’s plans is to see His children flourish and enjoy a life free from hardship and danger.įinally, the New International Version (NIV) sums it up by saying “plans to give you hope and a future” while the King James Version states that “to give you an expected end.”. The verse continues in the King James Version (KJV) stating that “ thoughts of peace, and not of evil,” while in the New International Version (NIV), it is recorded as “ plans to prosper you and not to harm you,”. Jeremiah 29:11 in the New International Version (NIV) says “ For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. In offering further consolation, Jeremiah encouraged the people to make themselves comfortable for them and their families by building houses and become engaged in farming.ĭuring this period of exile, God, through the prophet Jeremiah reassured the people that He has great plans for their future and that they should look forward to the glorious fulfillment of His wonderful promises. Jeremiah 29 was written between 630 and 580 B.C. In spite of His lack of confidence, God was able to use this prophet mightily who was later described by many bible scholars as the weeping prophet as he wept over the sins of His people.
